Mad Catz has been taken over by a new company The old Mad Catz executives resigned, the company had ceased operations. The new company has launched but there is no support for the old products, so this remains the only place you can get drivers, software and manuals. For the Mad Catz MC2 racing wheel there is a downloadable driver for the PC however, they are only compatible with Wins 95/98/Me. Through some more digging I've found a few forums that went into great detail about splicing and rewiring and jerry-rigging the cords from the MC2 to configure to USB.

'Hey bro. I saw this post this morning (well, technically yesterday morning: August 17), and I was having the self-same problem.
I just bought myself a nice computer and used my Madcatz controller (model #4716) on it. It worked on my laptop, but not on this one. Seems as though Microsoft mysteriously got rid of the driver for it on their compatibility site. Madcatz just has an 'idgaf' attitude and only hosts drivers that they didn't throw onto Microsoft's site in the first place.
While going around trying to find a driver for this (I've been working at it all day, mind you), I've had no success. I did, for instance, find XBCD, which is a controller emulator. It doesn't work really. Anyway, I did install that, and then I tried to uninstall it. It didn't uninstall all the way, but I managed to get it to stop attaching itself to my controller.
Without further ado, I will tell you how to fix your controller (provided you're having the same problem as me -- the lights on the controller flash for a moment then stay off)
1. Download the XBox 360 controller software from Microsoft here.
2. After installing that, plug in your USB controller. If it tries to automatically install the software, let it try, then close it out.
3. Open the start menu, and type in 'devmgmt.msc' in the search box. Press enter. You're now in the rather familiar Device Management page!
4. Double click the MadCatz controller in the list. Go to the drivers tab. Click on Drivers in the menu.
5. Click Update Driver. Select you want to do it manually. Now, instead of browsing for some drivers for the software, select the option below (something to do with selecting from a list).
6. In the list, select Microsoft Common Controller for Windows Class. Use this and click next. You will get a warning box saying it might do your system harm. Proceed anyway.
7. Your controller now should be lit up and should work properly.
Took me forever to figure this out. I decided I'd register on here and tell you what I found in case you're still following this thread.
Best of luck. Tell me if that solves your problem. <3'

Mad Catz Universal MC2
When it comes to driving in video games, it all boils down to the feel of the game. If you can't properly sync that mental connection between you, your car, and your controller, the race is over. To that end, a wheel-and-pedal setup provide more intuitive control than conventional controllers. Playing with a regular controller gives you a relatively finite level of precision and feedback in comparison to a wheel. Unfortunately, this doesn't guarantee that any wheel will automatically be better. The Mad Catz Universal MC2 racing wheel offers a number of benefits to the racing enthusiast, but we found it lacking in a few crucial areas.

The Universal MC2 is exceedingly versatile in terms of console support and very easy to set up. It has hookups for all the major consoles: Xbox, PS2, and GameCube. Hooking it up to a console and rolling into a game couldn't be easier. Unlike a number of other wheels, you can actually plug this one in while the game is already on. Most other wheels need to be plugged in prior to turning on the console.

While there are no graphics in the application’s menu, it is intuitive and easy to decipher, especially for the more advanced target users. Roland ed pc-180a driver mac.

Setup involved nothing more than plugging one wire into the wheel and one into the console and placing the unit on a table. The underside of the Universal MC2 has three giant suction cups to keep it in place. Unless you really jerk the wheel around, it isn't likely to move very much. Three small rubber tabs on the suction cups make it easier to detach the wheel after you're finished.

You also have the option of playing with the wheel on your lap, which, in all likelihood, will be easiest for most folks, as living-room coffee tables don't exactly make the best driving platforms. In order to make laptop playing easier, the underside of the Universal MC2 has curves molded to match the shape of your legs. Once the wheel is on your lap, you can pull out the extractable leg supports that allow you to essentially wrap the wheel around your thighs. The thigh-hugging design combination makes for the most comfortable nontable driving option we've ever used. Of course, depending on the size of your frame, the wheel will have varying levels of comfort.

Mad Catz designed the pedal housing and structure with the same attention to detail as the wheel section. With eight separate rubberized grips, the pedals proved quite difficult to shove around on a carpeted surface. If you aren't a two-footed driver (one who assigns each foot to a pedal), you can use the extra foot area on the left side of the pedal structure for additional stability.
